Shanghai Vegetable Research Institute was established in August 2014. The research institute aims to cultivate new vegetable varieties with independent intellectual property rights, enhance the core competitiveness of Huihe Seed Industry, and realize the integration of breeding, reproduction and promotion. The research institute is mainly engaged in the innovative breeding of fruits and vegetables and special corn, the collection, protection, purification and rejuvenation and commercialization of local varieties resources, the introduction and demonstration of new varieties, the application and promotion of new varieties, the research and development and promotion of supporting cultivation techniques for new vegetable varieties, professional farmers Cultivation technology guidance and training with new farmers; to provide a full range of professional advice for the sustainable and innovative development of Wells Seed.
The institute cooperates closely with Shanghai Jiaotong University and hires Professor Huang Danfeng as the director, with 1 extension researcher, 2 senior agronomists, 3 agronomists, 1 doctor, 6 masters, and more than 20 undergraduates. There are project department, breeding room (pumpkin breeding group, onion and garlic breeding group, solanum fruit breeding group, fresh corn breeding group), quality inspection room and molecular breeding laboratory. Since its establishment, the institute has adhered to the innovative selection and breeding of vegetable varieties, based on extensive collection of variety resources, through introduction, screening, and hybrid breeding, and on the basis of purifying and rejuvenating varieties, focusing on breakthroughs in onions, pumpkins and broccoli. Preliminary results have been achieved in the introduction, screening, cross breeding, and experimental demonstration of moss and sweet waxy corn varieties. In the next step, according to market demand, we will study the series of varieties and cultivate new vegetable varieties with strong advantages in quality and function and strong market competitiveness. At the same time, it has expanded in related fields such as improved seed breeding technology and seedling breeding technology.
